George Russell (Mercedes) set the pace in Practice 1 at the Japanese Grand Prix, with a best lap of 1:31.666, 0.026s quicker than Andrea Kimi Antonelli. Lando Norris was third, 0.132s off the top.

Mercedes, McLaren and Ferrari filled the top of the order, with the top 10 covered by 0.999s and ten drivers within a second of the fastest time.
